Apply these designer tips and tricks to your home, you can absolutely elevate your space without spending a ton of money. Now it’s all in the details when it comes to making your home look as custom and high-end as possible. So one small detail you should never look past are your floor vent covers. If you’re in a builder grade home or an older home, your floor vent covers might be an old metal finish, maybe a shiny gold, maybe even a bright white. Ideally, your vent covers should not even be something that you notice in your space. So the most high-end custom designs seamlessly work in the covers into the flooring. So if you have wood flooring in your home, the best thing you can do is get floor vent covers that actually match with your flooring. This is something that just absolutely steps up the design of your home, makes it look expensive with just this small detail change.

Let’s talk shower curtains. If you have a bathroom in your home that’s a shower tub combo, you most likely have a shower curtain. one thing that you can do to elevate the look of your bathroom is actually hang a second curtain higher than that shower curtain, really close to the ceiling or even off of the ceiling, and hang floor to ceiling curtains one panel on either side. This is going to give you that framed out decorative finished look in your bathroom. It will bring the eye up, make your washroom look taller and bigger, and add a smidgen of an enlivening, milder touch in your restroom. So I highly recommend trying this out if you have a shower tub combo Go for a curtain that is floor to ceiling so you really get that maximum height. Go for something that’s pleated and something that has a little bit of texture to it.

Now it’s always very luxurious to have a king-size bed in your primary bedroom. So if you’re ever upgrading your mattress from a double, a queen to a king, make sure that you’re also upgrading the size of your sleeping pillows. These pillows should be the coordinating size to your bed. So they should be a king size pillow. These are really gonna take up the exact width of the bed and make it look finished and complete. If you have a king size bed with your standard size pillows, it looks a little small. It doesn’t look right. It’s definitely not giving off that luxurious high-end feel. So make sure that you complete the look with the coordinating pillows.
King-Size Bed and Pillows
The first thing you normally notice when you walk into any home is the scent. It’s something that kind of lingers with you for a while. It’s memorable. So always be conscious of the scent of your home. I think the easiest Most affordable thing you can do is really just open up your doors and windows when it’s a nice day to let fresh air in. I always make sure that I have linen and room sprays by the front door so that if I know someone’s coming over, I can quickly spray around the front door to give that good lasting first impression. Especially if you have pets, this is definitely something you should think about. So I’m all about scents, having candles and room sprays and trying to make my home smell as fresh as possible. High-end home design always incorporates natural scents.
Home Scent
Stone natural stone looks expensive. It typically is expensive, especially when you’re incorporating it in a large way through flooring, countertops, backsplash, all of those hard surfaces. If you want to incorporate natural stone in your home on a budget, do it in a small way. You can incorporate side tables that have natural stone tops. You can incorporate trays and bowls and decor that really elevate your space in a small way. If you incorporate these natural stone finishes throughout your home, it will really add to the overall experience and give you that earthy, timeless look that will make your space look more expensive.

When decorating around your home, always make sure to extend your decorative touches into practical spaces like your kitchen, your bathroom, and your laundry room. A lot of the time, these rooms are forgotten about and they tend to be cold and hard and not too cute and pretty like the rest of your spaces, so always add those small touches into those practical spaces. Bring in a vase of flowers, a nice runner, nice hand towels, art pieces, decorative lighting. This is something that’s gonna make your entire home feel more cohesive, it’s gonna flow, it’s all gonna feel a lot more comfortable, and it definitely elevates the experience and look of your home.
Decorate Practical Spaces
Scale and proportion is very important when decorating and especially furnishing your home. Everything needs to fit properly, But one thing that you can go oversized with that’s actually very impactful is lighting. Oversized pendants, oversized chandeliers, oversized ceiling fixtures make such a huge difference. They really actually make your space feel larger and brighter. Lighting anchors your space kind of like a rug does, just on the opposite side of the room. So making sure that the lighting is large enough for the space to really connect all of the pieces and make it feel uniform will make your space look more expensive. Rooms that have the space but have small light fixtures installed just tend to have this compressed feeling, they look a little bit cheap. And by making one change to a larger light fixture, it will just instantly upgrade the look of your home and make it look designer and expensive instantly.
Oversized Lighting
Now, when you’re furnishing your home, you should always look for pieces that have that heavy weight to them. That’s what’s gonna give off this quality high-end look and feel. so the weight of your pieces really matters. So if you want to have this quality in your home on a budget, the best thing you can do is thrift furniture. I love going furniture thrifting and looking for heavy, solid wood pieces, things that can be refinished, things that you can bring new life into, but not everything at the thrift store is good quality. So make sure that you’re opening up drawers and cabinets and seeing if they have those quality finishes to them. look for dovetail joints in the drawers and that’s going to be a sign of a handmade, good quality wood furniture piece. If they’re just nailed together and they look a little flimsy, then it’s definitely just a cheap piece. So stay away from those and look for those solid, dovetail joints, and that’s gonna show you that you’re buying a good quality thrifted find. Bringing thrifted antique and vintage finds into your home really adds a lot of character, texture, and interest. And the best part is you can find these amazing things on a budget.
Quality Furniture
And lastly, a classic decorating trick that you can use in every single space to make it feel larger, brighter, and more expansive are mirrors, floor mirrors and wall mirrors. I pretty much use mirrors in almost every single space because they work wonders. You can bounce light around your space, you won’t have dark corners, and it really brings a gorgeous design element to every space. If your space lacks natural lighting, bring in mirrors. You’re gonna create the look of windows. You’re gonna create the experience of windows, because it’s gonna bounce whatever light it can find around the space and make it feel brighter.
